Editing

A full edit of your manuscript, examining structure, character development, consistencies and flow, sentence structure, and grammar.

When to choose editing
  • Your manuscript is finished
  • You’ve read through it at least once to correct basic errors
  • You’d like a professional editor to help you polish your work so it’s ready for publishing or for submission to a publisher
How it works

  • We discuss your project in an initial video/audio call or by email.
  • To be sure we’re a good fit, you send me a chapter (any chapter) of your manuscript and I do a sample edit of approx. 1,000 words.
  • Once you’re happy to proceed, we agree on a timeline.
  • We sign a contract, and you pay a 10% deposit.
  • You provide your manuscript, ideally in Word, and I begin working. I use Track Changes.
  • We communicate by text as needed throughout the project to clarify any questions I may have as I progress through the work.
  • I complete the edit and return the manuscript to you to review.
  • I send you an invoice for the remainder of the fee, due within 7 days.
  • We schedule a follow-up video/audio call where I take you through the revisions and answer any questions you may have.

Rate: $.020 per word

Proofreading

A proofread of your manuscript, looking for any errors in spelling, spacing and formatting.

When to choose proofreading

  • Your manuscript has been edited, either by yourself or a professional
  • You’ve formatted your manuscript for self-publishing (errors can often occur during formatting, so it is best to format before the proofreading stage)
  • You’d like to have a professional proofreader examine your manuscript for any errors before you publish or submit your work to a publisher
How it works
  • We discuss your project in an initial video/audio call or by email.
  • To be sure we’re a good fit, you send me a chapter (any chapter) of your manuscript and I do a sample proofread of approx. 1,000 words.
  • Once you’re happy to proceed, we agree on a timeline.
  • We sign a contract, and you pay a 10% deposit.

  • We communicate by text as needed throughout the project to clarify any questions I may have as I progress through the work.
  • I complete the proofread and return the manuscript to you to review.
  • I send you an invoice for the remainder of the fee, due within 7 days

Rate: $0.010 per word

Manuscript critique

A detailed evaluation of your manuscript, designed to point out trouble spots and give you guidance. I read the entire work and provide detailed feedback with examples.

When to choose a manuscript critique

  • Your manuscript is either finished or unfinished
  • You would like a professional perspective and guidance on the direction of your work
  • Your budget doesn’t allow for a full edit, but you’d still like professional guidance on your work
How it works
  • We discuss your project by email.
  • Once you’re happy to proceed, we agree on a timeline.
  • We sign a contract. For critiques of manuscripts over 50,000 words, you pay a 10% deposit.
  • You provide your manuscript, ideally in Word, and I begin reading.
  • I finish my read and create a typed report with my feedback and up to ten specific areas for you to revise or consider.
  • Before providing the report, we schedule a follow-up video/audio call where I take you through my feedback and answer any questions you may have. I then send you report by email.
  • I send you an invoice for the remainder of the fee, due within 7 days.

Rates:

Picturebooks up to 1,000 words: $75

Manuscripts 1,000 to 25,000 words: $150

Manuscripts over 25,000 words: $200 per 50,000 words (rounded to the next 50K)

Book coaching

We discuss your work one-on-one in video/audio sessions with email follow-up.

When to choose book coaching

  • You’re on a journey to improve your writing or finish a story
  • You would like professional guidance as you write, rather than waiting until your manuscript is finished
  • You would like to improve as a writer, but you aren’t sure how
How it works

How it works
  • You get in touch to purchase a coaching session via my website. Purchase options include one-off sessions or packages of three or five.
  • Once the payment has come through, I get in touch to schedule a 45-minute video or audio call to discuss your work at whatever time suits.
  • A minimum of three days before the call, you send me a piece of your writing in any typed format that you would like to discuss (up to 5,000 words).
  • On the call, we discuss your work and I answer any questions you may have. We work through any issues that the time allows.
  • I follow-up the call with an email detailing the major points of what we discussed.

Rates: $40 per 45-minute session / 3 sessions for $110 / 5 sessions for $180

Book cover design

I design a custom cover for your book, or you choose from my collection of available pre-made covers.

When to choose book cover design

  • You’d like a bespoke cover that appeals to readers of your genre
  • You’ve already published your book with a cover you created but you’re not getting the sales you expected
  • You’ve tried the KDP cover creator (or similar) and you’re after a more professional result
How it works
  • You browse examples of my work in my cover gallery and get in touch to request a custom cover or to purchase an available pre-made cover.
  • Pre-made: We agree on the sale and you pay a 10% deposit. I update the pre-made cover with your book title, author name, and one-line blurb (optional on the front cover). If you are purchasing a full wrap (i.e. for a printed book), I also update the back cover copy and spine. I send through the cover for one round of feedback or changes.
  • Custom: We discuss your book via email or video/audio call. I like to read the work before designing, but this is not fully necessary. We agree on a direction for the design, and you pay a 10% deposit. I draft the cover and send through to you for two rounds of feedback and changes.
  • Pre-made and custom: You approve the final design and pay the balance of the fee. I provide the cover file(s) in the format required.

Prices: Pre-made covers start from $75; prices are marked on available pre-mades in my online cover gallery. Custom covers start from $150 for an eBook cover, depending on the complexity of the design, and from $200 for the eBook cover plus a full wrap (front cover, back cover and spine, as for a printed book).

Ghostwriting/Rewriting

I write your book for you, based on your concept and an outline we agree on, or I rewrite your work to improve the overall story and tone.

When to choose ghostwriting/rewriting

  • You have a fantastic idea for a story but there are big challenges getting in the way of you writing it yourself
  • You don’t have the time to write your story, and you’re eager to get it out there
  • You want to share your life’s story, ie in a memoir, but you don’t have the time or the desire to write it out yourself
  • You have already written your story, and it is either a very rough draft or otherwise isn’t anywhere near where you would like it to be. Instead of going through rounds of editing and rewriting it yourself, you would like someone else to fix it up for you.
How it works
  • You get in touch to talk about your project, and we have an audio or video call to talk about your vision and the level of support you need (ie full ghostwriting or rewriting existing material).
  • Once you’re happy to proceed, we agree on a timeline.
  • We sign a contract, and you pay a 10% deposit.
  • If you already have an outline or existing work, you provide this, ideally in Word.
  • We communicate by email and scheduled video/audio calls as needed throughout the project to clarify any questions I may have as I progress through the work.
  • I complete the first draft and send to you for feedback. There are three rounds of feedback and changes included in the fee.
  • Once we have finished the third round of feedback and changes, I provide you with the final manuscript, formatted to the size you require.
  • I send you an invoice for the remainder of the fee, due within 7 days.

Rates:

$0.40 per word for ghostwriting, with or without an existing outline

$0.20 per word for rewriting
